As the ‘Beast from the East’ continues to wreak havoc across the country, it’s a timely reminder for landlords to make sure they have the right insurance for their rental properties.
Bad weather can make life a nightmare for landlords as damage can occur at any time – even if you keep everything well maintained. And while there are some things you can fix yourself, sometimes it’s best to get a specialist in to do it for you. In those cases, it’s important to have adequate cover in place so you don’t end up having to fork out too much to get things sorted.
As a landlord, it’s your responsibility to ensure urgent repairs are seen to within three working days and less urgent repairs as soon as possible. In this weather, anything related to heating and plumbing should be considered urgent.
It’s best to get insurance that protects against damage caused by storms, floods and water damage caused by fixed water tanks, apparatus and/or pipes, so you’re covered for any eventuality. The National Landlords Association’s Property Insurance covers all of this, so our members don’t have to worry. There’s a 15 percent discount for those with full NLA membership. If you’re not a member, you can join up here.
